Terms of Use

Effective date: July 14, 2026
Operated by: Shire Vets (“we,” “us”) · Contact: legal@shirevets.com

These Terms are written in plain language on purpose. They are still a real agreement between you and the platform.

1. Acceptance

By creating an account and using the platform, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the platform — and talk to your representative about other ways to get help with your claim, which are always available to you.

2. Who can use the platform

To use the platform you must:

  • Have an invitation from the platform or one of our partner organizations (the platform is currently a closed pilot, beginning with veterans invited through the Georgia Department of Veterans Service);
  • Be 18 years of age or older; and
  • Be located in the United States.

You agree to give us accurate information about yourself and to keep it up to date.

3. What the platform is — and what it is not

The platform is claim preparation assistance. It helps you gather your facts, organize your evidence, and get your paperwork ready, working together with a real, accredited Veterans Service Officer (VSO) who represents you.

The platform is not:

  • Legal advice. the platform and its AI assistant do not provide legal advice or legal representation. Your accredited VSO provides representation under the power of attorney you sign.
  • The VA. the platform is not the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and is not affiliated with or endorsed by it. The platform does not decide your claim — only the VA does that.
  • An autonomous filing tool. the platform does not file claims on its own. Every decision about whether and when to file rests with you and your accredited VSO.

4. About the AI assistant

Part of the platform’s help comes from an AI assistant. You should know:

  • AI-generated content can contain errors. The assistant is designed to be careful — it says so when it isn’t sure, and it hands your case to your human VSO rather than guessing — but it can still make mistakes.
  • Humans check the work. Your accredited VSO reviews your claim information at defined points before anything is filed.
  • If something looks wrong, tell us. Report anything that seems inaccurate to the assistant, to your VSO, or to legal@shirevets.com. Don’t rely on AI-generated content for a decision without your VSO’s review.
  • Nothing the assistant says creates a guarantee about your claim’s outcome.

5. Your account and security

You agree to:

  • Keep your password private and your multi-factor authentication set up;
  • Not share your account or let anyone else use it — your account holds your personal claim information;
  • Tell us right away at legal@shirevets.com if you think someone else has accessed your account;
  • Sign out on shared devices.

You are responsible for activity on your account until you tell us it’s been compromised.

6. Acceptable use

Use the platform only to prepare your own claim. You agree not to:

  • Submit information you know to be false (knowingly false statements to the VA can also be a federal crime);
  • Try to access another person’s information or probe, scan, or test the security of the service;
  • Upload malicious software or content;
  • Use automated tools to scrape or bulk-extract content from the service;
  • Attempt to manipulate the AI assistant into bypassing its safety or consent controls;
  • Use the platform for anything unlawful.

We may suspend accounts that violate this section (see Section 11).

7. Electronic signatures

the platform uses electronic signatures under the federal ESIGN Act and the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA). By using the platform’s signing feature you consent to do business electronically, and you agree that:

  • The signature you adopt in the app is your legal signature, with the same effect as pen on paper;
  • Your adopted signature is applied to each form only with your explicit go-ahead, each time. We never auto-sign anything. Drafts stay unsigned until you say so;
  • You can review any form before agreeing to sign it, and you can request paper alternatives through your representative at no penalty;
  • You can withdraw your consent to electronic signing at any time by contacting us — it just means future forms will need another method.

8. Your information

Your documents, your facts, and your story belong to you. You grant us permission to store, process, use, and share them as described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms. You can get a copy of your information or ask us to delete it as the Privacy Policy describes.

9. Privacy Policy and sensitive health information

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and who sees it. It is part of your relationship with the platform and you should read it.

One thing these Terms deliberately do not do: accepting these Terms does not authorize us to share or use your sensitive health information — including mental health, military sexual trauma, substance use, HIV, sickle cell, or reproductive-health information. Consent for those categories is never obtained through these Terms or the Privacy Policy. It is obtained only through separate, specific authorizations — asked plainly, in the moment, in the conversation — which you may decline or later revoke without affecting your claim assistance.

10. Intellectual property

the platform’s software, design, and content (other than your information and VA/government materials) belong to the platform or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable license to use the platform to prepare your claim while these Terms are in effect. Forms and documents generated for your claim are yours to use for your claim. Government works — like VA forms and regulations — are not ours and are not covered by this section.

11. Termination

  • You can leave any time. Close your account by contacting us or your representative. Leaving the platform does not end your representation — your VSO can keep helping you outside the app.
  • We can suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms, create security risks, or when the pilot ends. If we do, we will tell you why unless the law prevents it, and we will handle your data as the Privacy Policy and our retention obligations require.
  • Sections that by their nature should survive (your rights in your information, retention, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) survive termination.

12. Disclaimers

the platform is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that:

  • The service will be uninterrupted or error-free;
  • AI-generated content will be accurate or complete (see Section 4); or
  • Using the platform will result in any particular claim outcome — VA decisions belong to the VA.

Nothing in this section limits your VSO’s professional obligations to you under their accreditation, or any warranty that cannot be disclaimed under applicable law.

13. Limitation of liability

  • We are not liable for indirect damages — such as lost benefits opportunities, consequential, incidental, special, or punitive damages — arising from your use of the platform, to the extent permitted by law.
  • For direct damages, our total liability is capped at the greater of $500 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose (the platform is free during the pilot).
  • These limits do not apply to: our gross negligence or willful misconduct; death or personal injury caused by our negligence; or anything that cannot be limited under applicable law.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Georgia, and both sides consent to jurisdiction there. Before filing anything, please contact us at legal@shirevets.com — most problems can be fixed with a conversation.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the platform grows. When we make a material change, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect; your continued use of the platform after that notice means the updated Terms apply. The current version is always available in the app, and we keep prior versions available on request.
